Hugh Pankey Williams ’56

Body

HUGH WILLIAMS died at his home in Gideon, MO., Apr. 13, 1991, and with his passing our Class lost one of its most courageous and inspirational members .

Hugh came to Princeton from Gideon High School. He played basketball and joined Quadrangle. A member of Air Force R.O.T.C., Hugh served as a pilot in the Strategic Air Command, worked as aide to the commanding general of the Eighth Air Force, and attained the rank of captain. Following his service tour he entered law school at the Univ. of Virginia (and flew fighters in the Naval Air Reserve). In 1965, his last year at Charlottesville, he was permanently paralyzed from the shoulders down in an auto accident.

After several years in numerous hospitals, Hugh returned to his parents' home in Missouri. He served many years as municipal judge in Gideon, and he kept up a lively interest in history, politics, Princeton and the world around him. He was always a cheerful and gracious host to classmates who made their way to southwest Missouri to visit him.

To Hugh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Williams, and to his sister, Harriet Ewing, the Class extends its sympathy and its thanks for a marvelous human being.
