Hugh T. McCann Jr. ’47

Body

TOM DIED Mar. 29, 1994, in Petaluma, Calif., where he had lived for the past 22 years. Tom entered Princeton in the summer of 1943, but left to serve in the navy in 1944. Upon his return, he majored in philosophy and graduated in 1947. After that, he studied law at the Univ. of Virginia.

Tom then went to San Francisco and joined the Wells Fargo Bank. His enthusiasm for theater soon led him to accept a post at the Bank of America preparing scripts for training films and developing instructional material for the bank's personnel. He also taught business law at the Univ. of San Francisco and at Golden Gate Univ.

Tom's stint at the Bank of America persuaded him that writing interested him more than the law. He worked at several San Francisco advertising firms, then established his own advertising and publicrelations company, Tom McCann Communications, in 1979.

In his spare time, he was active in the Princeton Club of Northern California and the Bohemian Club, for which he sometimes performed. Those who attended the minireunion in the Bay Area in 1990 will remember the visit to the Bohemian Grove that he arranged for us.

In 1957, Tom married Mary Nell King. To her and to their sons Hugh III and Theodore, the class extends its profound sympathy. We mourn the loss of this genial man of many talents.
