J. Franklin Supplee III ’41

Body

FRANK SUPPLEE, a specialist in internal medicine, died Aug. 21, 1991, in Baltimore's Union Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. He had planned to attend our 50th but couldn't.

Frank came to college from the Gillman School, majored in biology, and went directly to Johns Hopkins, before joining the Army Medical Corps in 1944. He married Sally Bruce Mann on Sept. 11, 1945, and, four years later, set up private practice while serving on the hospital staffs of Union Memorial, Hopkins, and the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He was surgeon general of the Maryland National Guard, from which he retired a full colonel after 30 years of military service.

"Soup," as friends called him, was a likable man with a warm and open smile for everyone. He roomed with Henry Briggs (killed when the U.S.S. Turner exploded in 1944), Bill Quinby, Bill Stanley, and Clark Wesley (who died at home in 1967).

In addition to Sally, Frank is survived by a son, Frank IV; two daughters, Sally French and Elizabeth Stewart; a brother, Edward; a sister, Montgomery Abbott; and six grandchildren. To all of these we extend our deepest sympathy.
