Gardiner died Feb. 25, 2024, in Charleston, SC.

Gardiner came to us from Choate School, where he played soccer, squash, and tennis and was in the dance band. At Princeton he played freshman soccer and squash. He was a member of Whig-Clio, the Right Wing Club, and worked on the Campus Fund Drive. He was a politics major and dined at Tiger Inn where he participated in IAA football and pool.

Following graduation, he earned a master’s degree in history from Wesleyan University. His passion was teaching and taught history before finding his calling as a Headmaster. He was Headmaster at the King School, Stamford, Conn., the O’Neal School, Pinehurst, N.C., and the Porter Gaud School, Charleston, S.C. He concluded his career as Associate Headmaster at Porter Gaud.

Christina, his wife of 37 years, describes him as devoted husband and a loving, caring, and patient father to their daughter Catherine. He loved spending time with his family, traveling internationally, playing tennis and golf, following multiple sports and keeping apprised of current events.

Gardiner is survived by Christina, Catherine, and brother Robert Dodd. The class extends condolences to all.
