Jack King Van Overen ’42

Jack graduated from Princeton High School. During college, he initially lived at home, but later he roomed on campus with Pete Bamman. Jack rowed on lightweight crew all four years, including the championship 150-pound crew of 1942. He majored in economics.

After graduation, Jack was drafted into the Army as a private. He ended his service as a captain in anti-aircraft artillery following assignment in the Panama Canal Zone and the Philippines.  

After two years at Harvard Business School, Jack embarked on a 26-year career in the financial side of the oil business, working for Gulf Oil and Mobil in the U.K., Turkey, Australia, and Singapore. In 1982 he switched to an architectural/engineering firm in the Philippines, from which he retired in 1986. In retirement he lived in Incline Village, Nev., Bend, Ore., and finally in Oro Valley, Ariz.  

Jack always was physically active — in accordance with his motto “Use it all up.” An independent man in college, he remained a free spirit his entire life.
