James Bradley Averill ’31

Body

JIM DIED Dec. 29, 1992, in Bryn Mawr. He prepared at St. Mark's School, and while at Princeton was a member of the crew squad, Catholic club, and Cap and Gown Club. He roomed for three years with R. M. Parker. After graduation, he worked in the insurance business for a number of years, before entering Columbia Univ. College of Physicians and Surgeons, from which he received his medical degree in 1941. During WWII, he served under Gen. George S. Patton as a captain in the Army Medical Corps. After the war, he moved to Albany, where he practiced until moving to Tryon, N.C., in 1971. He was semi-retired, but continued to practice part time until moving to Bryn Mawr in 1988. He is survived by his widow, Louise; son Leonard '67; four daughters, Leigh, Virginia, Miry, and Elizabeth; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Hayden Sears. The Class sends its sympathies to his family.
