James C. Alexander ’57

Body

JIM DIED Nov. 6, 1993, in Charleston, W.Va., after a short illness. At Princeton, he majored in chemical engineering and joined Elm Club. During his senior year, he roomed with Jerry Wolcott, Whit Courtney, and Maurice Levy.

After graduation, Jim worked at the Union Carbide Tech Center in South Charleston, W.Va. He was transferred in 1968, and he and his family spent almost six years in New Jersey and in Puerto Rico. He returned to the Charleston plant in 1973. In 1976, Jim worked on an engineering project based in Belgium and the family was able to spend three years living in London and Antwerp. Returning to Charleston in 1979, Jim retired from Union Carbide in 1986, and lived in Charleston throughout his retirement.

Jim was an avid classical and country music fan, an expert bridge player, and he developed a keen talent for darts while working in London. He thoroughly enjoyed extensive traveling throughout Europe and the U.S., inspiring in his children a love for the arts and an interest in history.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Lori A. Wiener; his son, Timothy; and his mother, Ollie B. The class extends its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
