James Crittenden Adams ’46

JIM ADAMS died of respiratory failure in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta on Feb. 19, 1993. Jim joined the Class in 1942 and left to serve with Patton's Third Army in France and Germany. He rejoined the University in 1946, but in 1947 was stricken with polio and was confined to a wheel chair and crutches for the rest of his life. At Princeton, Jim was a member of Quadrangle Club. He later served as president of the Princeton Alumni Assn. of Northern New York, where he also had been V.P. and secretary.

For much of his professional life, Jim served as purchasing manager for Dittler Brothers, a printing firm in Atlanta, from which he retired in 1990. He was active in civic affairs, as an elder in the Roswell (Ga.) Presbyterian Church, and as a member of the Lion's Club of Roswell, which named him Man of the Year in 1986.

Jim leaves his widow, Caroline; his sister jean Blake, who was Jim's twin; his sister Grace Jones; and his sister Catherine Mailloux, wife of Paul Mailloux '42. To all of these family members and to his many nieces and nephews, the Class sends its deep sympathy. We salute a fallen member whose personal courage throughout years of travail is an example to us all. Jim was a loyal classmate and fine friend.
