James D. Cooper ’45

Body

Doug Cooper died Aug. 13, 1994, after suffering a massive stroke. Doug entered Princeton from Lawrenceville and roomed at 16 Dickinson St. His Princeton career was interrupted by service with the 122nd General Hospital as a pharmacist in Hertfordshire, England. Upon his return to Princeton, he became an officer of Terrace Club and got a degree in economics in 1948. Doug then returned to his native Detroit and became associated with the Michigan Bell Telephone. A study of accounting led to his association with Allstate Insurance in Detroit, where he remained until 1966, when he joined the Federal-Mogul Corp., in Ferndale, Mich. Doug's interest in data processing led to his final position as manager for administration and data security for the Automobile Club of Michigan, in Dearborn.

Doug married Alvine Claire Coleman in 1950 and they had six children. Since the six included four girls, Doug became active in Girl Scouting and Al became a leader of a mounted troop, instructing in riding. Both worked tirelessly for the Presbyterian Church. To Al and to their six children, Christine Claire, Diane Lynn, Pamela Jane Story, Suzanne Drean, James Brian, and Andrew Douglas, and to the four grandchildren, the class extends its deep sympathy.
