AFTER SEVERAL YEARS of advanced emphysema, Jim succumbed on Dec. 11, 1992, while living in a nursing home in Norwood, Mass., near his daughter, Emily.

A graduate of Blair Academy, Jim majored in electrical engineering, graduating with honors. He belonged to Dial Lodge, played slide trombone in the University band and Triangle Club orchestra, and earned numerals sin swimming. He went on to Columbia Univ. for hi master's degree.

In 1940, he began working for Public Service Electric & Gas Co. of New Jersey. He was manager of transportation upon his retirement in 1975, when he moved to Bonita Springs, Fla. He was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in New Jersey and Florida.

Jim's wife of 41 years, the former Elisabeth Peck, died in 1981. By 1984, his emphysema had progressed to the point that he could not make it alone. His daughter Emily (Mrs. Robert Nicodemus) and her husband cared for him in their home for four years, until he required 24hour supervision. Also surviving are son James Jr.; brothers John C. and William R.; and grandchildren Aaron, Todd, and Wendy.
