James F. Whitehill ’48

Body

JIM WHITEHILL died suddenly June 6, 1992, at his home in Dallas, Tex., just a week before his 66th birthday. He had an aortic valve replacement two years previously.

Jim grew up in Pelham Manor, N.Y., and joined us by way of Lawrenceville School. He was in the V-12 program and was known to us in those days as Jim Funke (he changed his name to Whitehill in 1960). Jim belonged to Charter and graduated with honors in Economics.

After a year of law school at Virginia and three years at J. L. Hudson in Detroit, Jim joined the Hough Mfg. Co. as district manager. In 1960 Jim founded his own company, Texas Seating, in Dallas and operating it until his death.

Jim and Ginny, his wife of 32 years and a Mt. Holyoke graduate, in addition to widespread traveling were very active in a host of environmental concerns in Planned Parenthood, and in civic affairs. They collected antiques and ceramics. Jim's years in church furnishings and his whimsical nature betrayed him on

entering Julie and Don Sterling's front door some years ago: "Hmmm; nice Episcopalian red." It was something Don had never thought of..

Jim's abiding love of Princeton was surpassed only by his devotion to his young granddaughter Jill.

To his widow, Ginny, and daughters Patricia and Margaret, the Class offers its deepest sympathy and shares in their loss,
