James I. Peters Jr. ’49

Jim died Dec. 28, 2008, of complications caused by Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.  

Jim prepared for Princeton at Holly Springs High School in Meridian, Miss. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945. Jim majored in biology at Princeton and graduated with honors. He was a member of the 150-pound crew and Quadrangle Club.

Jim graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1953. After a period of hospital service, he spent time as medical director of the New England Mutual Life Insurance Co. However, he left to serve in the emergency room at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, N.H., until 1960, when he opened a private practice in Duxbury, Mass. He continued in private practice and making house calls until his retirement.  

As an artist, Jim painted and sculpted and served as president of the Duxbury Art Association. He was an avid sailor and skier, loved gardening, and thoroughly enjoyed his role as a doting grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters, Ann, Susan, and Jennifer; and six grandchildren. The class joins them in mourning their loss of a gentleman who enjoyed life to the fullest.
