James Oliver Boss ’35

Body

JIM BOSS, who had lived in Bakersfield, Calif., for many years, died there July 9, 1992, after a long illness.

Jim was born May 15, 1912, in Baltimore and lived for many years in Lawrenceville. He prepared for Princeton at Lawrenceville. His Princeton roommates were Tim Brame, Bob Whaley, and Gene Bachran.

After college Jim traveled west to California, where he delved into gold mining in the Sierras. in 1940 he returned to New York and worked for several years at American Reserve Reinsurance Company. By 1945 the call of the west brought him back to California, where he went into an extensive ranching operation involving cotton, alfalfa, and livestock.

In recent years, Jim had spent much time and heart with the ill and bedridden, visiting regularly with a large number of invalids.

Jim is survived by two sisters., Martha Luxford and Betty Kransenmaker; a son, Peter; two grandchildren, Collene Boss and Deanne Peterson; and two great-grandchildren. To them, we offer our sympathy, thankful that for all of us, happy memories of our old friend will go on.
