James Parsons Ellis ’41

Body

JIM ELLIS died of heart disease June 26, 1993, in a hospital near his Silver Spring, Md., home. Until 1989, he worked for the U.S. and D.C. governments as a realestate appraiser.

Jim was born in Chicago and served with the army air corps in England following graduation. Jim's love for show business and the Triangle Club steered him to J . obs in with radio and television, where he helped put together the early Milton Berle and Jackie Gleason productions. Then came campaign films for Eisenhower and Nixon in 1952, and for Barry Goldwater in 1964. This led to a move to Washington, independent appraisal work, and supervisory positions with the General Services Administration and the Home Loan Bank Board. Jim married Patricia W. Owens 18 years ago, after his divorce from Rita Lynch, and it was Patricia who brought him to our 50th reunion for the "golf cart brigade," then again that fall to the Triangle's 100th. All was cheerfulness in spite of his severe idiopathic cardiomyopathy.

Jim leaves daughters Marie Huffnagel and Gwen Deely from his first marriage; three stepchildren Nicholas Owens, Anthony Owens, and Patricia Jarrett; and seven grandchildren. One of these, in whom Jim and Pat took particular joy, is Kendal I Mai, the adopted Korean daughter of son Nicholas and his Vietnamese wife. Our hearts go out to all of them,
