JIM ARMENTROUT DIED at home after a brief illness Aug. 13, 1993. He passed away quickly, after having spent time with his family, in familiar surroundings, His wife of 54 years, D. Virginia, was with him.

After earning a master's in fine arts at Princeton, Jim moved to suburban Philadelphia, where he and his family were to reside until his death. During WWII, he worked at Defense Design on Long Island, commuting there from Philadelphia. Having completed service to his country, Jim resumed his career in architecture. He specialized in designing churches and primary and secondary schools. His office was responsible for designing the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church; public schools in many townships, including Lower Merion, Methacton, and Lower Providence; and other buildings. He also did buildings for The Hill School in Pottstown, Penn.

Jim and Virginia raised four children: Alexander VanD. '63, Richard W '65, J. Michael, and Christine R. They have seven grandchildren.

After retirement in 1975, Jim and Virginia spent time traveling, editing two 19thcentury manuscripts and a journal, and operating their farm in Ambler, Penn. Jim was an avid fisherman, reader, and skillful craftsman. He was curious and involved in our swiftly changing world. He is greatly missed.
