James Wendell Adams ’52
WHILE PLAYING GOLF on Apr. 27, 1986, Jim Adams suffered a fatal heart attack. After services in his home church, the Village Presbyterian Church of Rancho Santa Fe, and at O'Shea Funeral Home on Long Island, he was interred in his hometown of Hempstead, N.Y.
Jim devoted his life to work and family. After graduating as a civil engineer, he worked as a civilian, and then on active duty with the Army Corps of Engineers. On returning to civilian status, and marrying Sandra Marchisotto on Sept, 11, 1955, Jim moved west and earned an M.B.A. from U.C.Berkeley. A 20year career with I.B.M. led Jim to the position of national sales manager in Los Angeles. During his stint with Toro, Inc., he rose to senior V.P. of the international division. Jim and Sandra returned to southern California in 1984, having purchased the Toro franchise in San Diego.
A superior athlete, at Princeton Jim was a member of the freshman baseball team and also played on the150pound football team for three years. His roommates were Russ McNeil, Stan Cairns, and Howard Wentz, and he belonged to Cannon Club.
Jim is survived by his beloved Sam and their three sons, James Jr., Scott, and Steven. To them we offer our profound sympathies.
