Jan Q. Holmquist ’58

Body

OUR CLASSMATE Jan Q. Holmquist, recently a resident of Pacific Palisades, Calif., died Mar. 7, 1993, after a twoyear fight against cancer. He came to Princeton from Highland Park H.S. outside of Chicago. Jan took his junior year abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he studied music and art. In our senior year, he returned to Princeton and took his meals at Tower Club.

Jan was always an accomplished pianist. He recently had completed a series of 130 piano duet recitals with Rob Woyshner. The concerts were heard all over the world. Jan acted as accompanist for many wellknown artists during his career, including Sherrill Milnes, George Shirley, and Metropolitan Opera star Martina Arroyo.

Jan's business career was in advertising. Before moving to California a few years ago, Jan lived in London and in Mexico City, where he was a copywriter for Young and Rubicam. In Los Angeles, he was a V.P. of Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon, and Eckhardt.

Jan is survived by both of his parents; by his former wife, Carolyn Kimball; and by his daughter Kursten. To them the Class extends its deepest sympathy.
