Jeffrey D. Cropsey ’64

Jeffrey Cropsey died suddenly July 5, 2010, of injuries he received falling down a stairway in his home.

He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, was a dedicated member of the marching band and crew team, and worked as a university radio disk jockey. In 1966, he received an M.B.A. in operations and systems analysis from Stanford University and began working for North American Rockwell.

Later Jeffrey transitioned to public accounting, working first for Deloitte & Touche in Phoenix and New York, and then for KPMG in New York. He was made partner at both firms. While at Deloitte, he was a practice fellow with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) where he met his wife, Betsy. After leaving KPMG, he was senior vice president, CFO, and a member of two boards of directors for New York-based reinsurance companies. He returned to the FASB in 2001.

At the time of his death, Jeffrey was working on the insurance contract project, a joint effort between the FASB and the International Accounting Standards Board (London) to conform United States and international insurance accounting and reporting standards.

He was a devoted husband to Betsy and loving father to his son, Jeffrey. We give thanks for the life of Jeffrey, a very kind, loving, and generous man. He is deeply missed.
