Jesse Albert Barrett Jr. ’64

Body

JESSE BARRETT died of lung cancer in Montgomery, Ala., Mar. 22, 1993. He was 52. Al came to Princeton from Atlanta's Westminster Schools. Although registered as a member of the Class of 1964, At matriculated with '62 and had the fortune to be claimed by both. He was joined the freshman swim team, the Right Wing Club, and Tiger Inn, which he dearly loved; he majored in politics.

Al's abilities as a counselor and teacher led him to an education career. He taught at the Potomac Schools in McLean, Va.; then was assistant headmaster at North Cross School in Roanoke. He was the headmaster at Valwood School in Valdosta, Ga., for five years and the president of NansernondSuffolk Academy in Suffolk, Va., for five years. At the time of his death, At was the executive director of the Private Industry Council for the State of Alabama and the interim headmaster for Lakeside School in Eufaula.

At received a master's degree from George Washington Univ. He held many service positions, including offices with the Virginia Independent Schools Assn., the Southern Assn. of Colleges and Schools, and the Princeton alumni schools committee. He was also a member of the boards of directors of the Greater Hampton Roads and Suffolk Y.M.C.A.s.

Al is survived by his widow, Linda; twin daughters, Elizabeth and Virginia; and a son, David '95. We extend our deepest sympathies to all of them. Al was a caring father, a devoted husband, and a dedicated educator who will be sorely missed and dearly remembered.
