Joe F. Richardson ’35

Body

JOE FENET RICHARDSON died Oct. 1, 1994. He was in an auto accident in May, was hospitalized several times, and had a fatal bout with pneumonia.

He prepared at Lawrenceville and graduated from Princeton with honors in English. He was stage manager for the Triangle Club, belonged to Cannon Club, and roomed with Hutch Cone.

Until he retired in the early 1970s, he was in the movie and TV industry. In WWII, he served in the navy in the Pacific. At the time of his discharge, he was a lt. commander. A member of the Screen Writers Guild, he wrote for many TV shows, including THE LONE RANGER, ANNIE OAKLEY, FRONTIER DOCTOR, and STORIES Of THE CENTURY.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Elston, and a daughter, Susan, who gave the remembrance at Joe's very moving memorial service.

His warm and witty personality endeared him to his many friends. Joe was a modest man, devoted to his family, an original thinker, and a wonderfully loyal Princetonian. We mourn his passing and offer heartfelt condolences to Virginia and Susan.
