Joel died June 3, 2010, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian. He was living in Pittsburgh at the time.

Joel came to Princeton from Beall High School in Frostburg, Md. He roomed in 4 South Middle Reunion Hall during his freshman year, and left Princeton sometime during the fall of sophomore year.

After leaving Princeton Joel graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon) in Pittsburgh with a degree in architecture. He worked as a sole practitioner for many years, with offices in Pittsburgh and Maryland, and later joined the firm of Burt Hill Architects in Pittsburgh, from which he retired.

Joel was survived by his wife, Irene; a daughter, Krista Jastrzembski; three grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. We have sent condolences.
