John Alan Wilson ’39

JACK DIED on Hilton Head Island, S.C., Dec. 2, 1991. He had moved to Sea Pines Plantation in 1981 and a year later retired as general counsel, secretary, and V.P. of the Diamond Shamrock Corp. in Cleveland, a position he had held since 1967.

After earning his law degree at Yale and a brief stint as a law clerk, Jack was called to active duty in 1942. He servedas cryptographer for the general officers aboard the U.S.S. ANCON, a headquarters ship in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Normandy on DDay, and Okinawa. After the war he became legislative assistant to Sen. Robert Taft before moving to Cleveland, where he eventually joined Diamond Alkali, forerunner of Diamond Shamrock. After retirement from Diamond, he took the South Carolina bar exam and opened his own law office, enjoying private practice until the time of his death. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Yacht Club of Hilton Head Island ' the Sea Pines Country Club, and the Princeton Alumni Assn. of South Carolina.

Jack's first wife, Dorothy, died in 1982. Subsequently he married Carol Somers, whom some of us met at our 50th reunion. To Carol, Jack's son Robert, and to his daughter Anne WilsonSkarlatos, we extend our sincere sympathy.
