John B. Lewis ’64

Body

Sadly, we learned that John Birt Lewis died May 13, 2010. He had very little contact with 1964 and Princeton over the years and very little is known about his life.

What is known is that John Birt, as he was called, grew up in Sharon, Pa., was an outstanding student and football player at Sharon High School, and was recruited to play football at Princeton. An economics major who worked in Commons, he found time to join Cap and Gown and rarely missed a card game. Somewhere along the line he withdrew from Princeton and we have no record of where he may have continued his undergraduate education. We did learn that he earned an M.B.A. from Columbia in 1974, that he was the longtime comptroller for the Partnership for Child Healthcare Inc. in Washington, D.C., and that he lived with his family in Arlington, Va., in recent years. Unfortunately, none of our efforts to contact his next of kin and learn more about his life was successful.

John Birt had an infectious smile and a zest for life. He will be remembered for his friendliness and cheerful demeanor, and will be missed by those of us who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. To his family and friends, the class sends sympathy.
