John B. Mulford ’61

Body

The University has advised us that John died of cancer Sept. 17, 2007, in France.

Eldest son of the late Vincent Strong Mulford Jr. ’33, John hailed from Tulsa, Okla., and came to Princeton from St. Paul’s School. All we know of his undergraduate life is that he took his meals at Court Club and left Princeton after junior year.

He moved to Germany, was drafted into the U.S. Army, married a German girl, and returned to Germany after his service, where he worked for many years as a translator for a German company located somewhere near Stuttgart. Divorced from his first wife and remarried, he then moved to the village of Algolsheim in France, very near the German city of Breisach. Once he was diagnosed, he and his second wife, Milena, moved to Freiberg, Germany, where he could be closer to the doctors he needed.

He is survived by Milena; his first wife, Erna; son Thomas; a brother, Robert; a sister, Elizabeth; a step-grandson, Julien; and several nieces and nephews, including Catherine ’90 and Douglas.
