John Caleb Cushing ’39

JOHN DIED Nov. 6, 1991, at his home in Hinsdale, 111. He had retired from U.S. Steel (USX) in 1975, after 38 years in various positions, including labor relations, personnel, sales administration, and management development. At the time of his retirement he was manager of commercial planning.

John entered college from Lawrenceville, did graduate work at Northwestern in 1942, and in 1961 attended Harvard's advanced management program.

Over the years John was active in a variety of social and community activities. He served as general cochairman of the Chicago Heart Fund Campaign, chairman of the Mayor's Committee for a Cleaner Chicago, president of the University Club of Chicago, and V.P. of the Chicago Golf Club. He also volunteered frequently to serve on boards and commissions in the village of Hinsdale.

John and Patricia Freer were married in 1942 and had two sons, John C. Jr. and James B., and two daughters, Elizabeth Dolmyer and Barbara Morguelan. To Pat and all his family, which includes ten grandchildren, we offer our sincere sympathy.
