John Campbell Hurdman ’39

Body

JACK DIED in his sleep at his home in Delray Beach, Fla., Aug. 15, 1991. He had had a serious operation in January but as recently as June had re ported to former roommate Toni Maurice that he was feeling much more comfortable.

After college Jack studied accounting at Columbia's Graduate School of Business, served with the Signal Corps in WWII, and then became a partner in Hurdman and Cranstoun, his father's accounting firm in New York. In 1951 he founded his own business, Hurdman & Co., with offices in N.Y.C. and Bedford, N.Y., which he ran until he retired, first to Vermont for 15 years, occupying himself as a professional photographer, and then to Delray Beach. He brought his accounting expertise to our service for a term as Class treasurer from 1964 to 1969.

Jack married Harriette Smith in 1946; they were divorced in 1963. Sadly, in that same year their eldest son, John Jr., died. But ever since, Jack has been blessed by the close companionship of his son Frederick and daughter Anne Chisholm, both of Delray, and seven grandchildren. We share their loss and offer them our sympathy.
