John Eldred Armstrong ’29

Body

John died on Oct. 24, 1984, but because he had no close living relatives, we were not informed until recently. John made a bequest to Princeton, so the news came from the office of the university's recording secretary.

John prepared at Shortridge High School, in Indian¬apolis. He attended Princeton for three years and then matriculated at Rollins College, from which he gradu¬ated. He also attended Indiana Univ. (1936-37) and then the Columbia Univ. School of Library Service. He re¬ceived a B.S. in library science from the latter. Before he began work in the library field, he was a reporter, editor, and retail bookseller. He had a Librarian's Life Certifi¬cate from the State Univ. of New York, and his library positions were at Indiana State College, the New York Public Library, the New York Health Dept., and the Queens Borough Public Library.

His wife, Elizabeth, predeceased him, and there were no children. The class extends its sympathy to his cousin, James E. Kepperley, of Westlake, Ohio, who kindly pro¬vided us with the information about John's career.
