JACK HAMLIN was born in Chicago on Apr. 30, 1902. He attended Lake Placid Florida School. At Princeton, he was a leading member of the University Orchestra and the Triangle Club Orchestra, for all four years, and was a member of Tower Club. He went on to receive his masters degree in architecture in 1927.

Jack entered the real estate business with Douglas Elliman and Co., rising to the position of president. He published many articles in N.Y. newspapers and real estate magazines and was a member of several civic organizations including the Fifth Avenue Assn., of which he was V.P. and treasurer; the Art Commission of N.Y. City; the Real Estate Board of N.Y.; the National Society of Literature and the Arts; and Phipps House, as a trustee. His clubs included the Racquet and Tennis and University of N.Y. and the Maidstone of East Hampton, of which at one time he was president.

He married Dorothy Jaeckel in 1927. Several years ago they moved to Montecito in Santa Barbara, Calif., where he died Nov. 21, 1991. He is survived by his widow, a son John Jr., a grandson John III, and two granddaughters.
