John Fedors Jr. ’75
John, one of our most loyal Reunions attendees, died March 8, 2018, of heart disease at his home in Basking Ridge, N.J. Born September 9, 1953, in Somerville, N.J., he was raised in Middlebush, N.J. He later lived in Rocky Hill and Maplewood, N.J., before moving to Basking Ridge 20 years ago.
John came to Princeton from the Lawrenceville School Class of 1971. After his graduation from Princeton with a B.S.E. in electrical engineering, he went on to earn his master’s degree in that field at Cornell University in 1976. He later earned a J.D. degree from Indiana University and a second master’s degree in archeology from Rutgers University. Always learning, he was working toward a doctorate, with aspirations to teach. He continually gave back to Lawrenceville and Princeton, to give others the scholastic opportunities that he had had. The John and Geraldine Fedors Scholarship Fund that he established at Lawrenceville to honor his parents will continue to do just that.
John was a corporate law attorney for more than 25 years, working for Citigroup in New Jersey. He was the current president of the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association and also served for more than five terms as president of Sunset Lake in Basking Ridge.
He was an avid reader and history buff, with special interest in World War II and the American Revolution. He enjoyed traveling to places like China, India, Iceland, and Turkey. Over the previous year his travels had taken him to St. Moritz, Ottawa, Paris, Switzerland, Italy, and Liechtenstein, including the 2017 Tour de France and the Alpine World Ski Championships. He also visited South Carolina to experience the total solar eclipse, and later the charm of Savannah. His heart’s desire was his last trip in early 2018 to Norway, where he saw the Northern Lights.
John was predeceased by his father, John Fedors, Sr., in 2012. He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Fedors; his sister, Patty Helleis and her husband, Sean; his nephew, Zachary Helleis; and his niece, Jordan Helleis. John’s many Princeton friends share their loss. Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Geraldine Fedors Scholarship Fund at The Lawrenceville School or to the American Heart Association.
