John Freeman Porter ’25
JACK PORTER was born in Portland, Ore. on Oct. 12, 1903, and attended Princeton Preparatory School. He was a member of Dial Lodge, and roomed all four years with George Garland.
After obtaining his law degree at Columbia, he practiced in N.Y.C., becoming a partner of McNamara and Seymour. He was a long-time resident of Port Washington.
While living in N.Y.C., Jack was an active member of the Cavalry National Guard, and after moving to Long Island, he became interested in gardening and the Bronx Botanical Gardens.
He died on Oct. 22, 1989. Both his wife, the former Dorothy Chaffers, and their daughter predeceased him. Evincing his continuing interest in Princeton, he left a substantial gift to the University from his estate.
