John G. Stryker ’74

John died Aug. 13, 2024, at Bethany Village, Pa., after an illness.
Born July 1, 1952, in Perth Amboy, N.J., he earned a law degree after Princeton and later worked in the survey research field. He lived for many years in Mount Pleasant, Pa., and enjoyed its peaceful surroundings.
John’s contributions to our class were legendary. He was for many years our class secretary, chronicling our classmates’ lives in the days before email. He kept in touch with everyone by sending birthday cards that helped solicit replies. Behind the scenes, he made many more contributions. He drafted and updated an unofficial course-selection guide to supplement the University’s dry offering. He was directly involved in overhauling bicker to make sure every participant had at least one offer. He also had a major hand in planning our graduation, including the introduction of the Senior Prom and Operation Mattress that got dorm rooms for family and guests when hotel accommodations were sparse. John will be remembered for his tireless efforts on our behalf.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jill Susan Spooner. In accordance with his wishes, there were no public services.
