John G. Taussig ’27

Body

JACK DIED in Sarasota, Fla., on Mar. 18, 1990, after one of 1927's most interesting careers. He left Princeton in 1925, and for years led an adventurous life as student at Boston Univ., worldwide traveler, and businessman in molasses and electric signs. He found his real and dearly loved vocation in 1942, when he and his wife, Carolyn, and three sons moved to the country town of Bolton, Mass., and started a dairy business with Holstein-Friesian cattle. In 1946 the health of their son Don prompted a move to Boulder, Colo., where Jack farmed and had a small ranch for beef cattle.

His retirement to Florida was rather nominal, as for years he represented St Armand's Travel. Typically, he took on community services in Sarasota, became an organizer for the Tallevast Community, and was a strong supporter on the board of the Boys' Club. (Memorial gifts would be welcomed at the club, 3100 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota 34232.) In the 1960s and 1970s the Taussigs traveled far and wide in Europe, the Orient, the South Pacific, and South America.

We express our sense of loss and our sympathy to John's widow, Carolyn; to his sons John G. Jr., William H., and Donald E.; to his eight grandchildren; and to his two great-grandchildren.
