John H. Myers ’44

Body

JACK DIED of pneumonia May 27, 1994, in a nursing home in Illinois, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 71. He joined us from Sr. Albans School, of which he later became a trustee. At Princeton, he roomed with Van Ness Philip and George Chester. He majored in politics and was editorial editor of the Daily Princetonian.

As a naval officer during WWII, he served on destroyer escorts, one of which participated in the rescue of survivors of the cruiser Indianapolis. In 1948, he married Eleanor Brown while attending the Univ. of Michigan law school, from which he graduated in 1949.

After 41 years with the Washington law firm of Ross, Marsh, Foster, Myers and Quiggle, founded by his father, he retired in 1990 as a partner. Of special interest throughout his career had been the legal problems of colleges and universities, for which he was honored by the Natl. Assn. of College and University Attorneys. Over the years, Jack was active in community affairs, was a trustee of Wilson College, and was past president of the Univ. of Montana Foundation.

The class extends its sympathy to his widow, Eleanor; his daughters, Julie, Lynn, and Pamela; his son, John Jr.; and his brothers, Robert and Richard.
