John Handy Edwards ’26

JOHN EDWARDS, prominent citizen of Oklahoma City and dedicated Princetonian, died May 5, 1993, of a heart ailment, at his home in Oklahoma City.

John came to Princeton from Andover, was a member of Key & Seat, and graduated with honors. He then entered the investment banking business through R. J. Edwards, Inc., the family firm, and in due course as its head became the leader in the field of municipalbond financing in Oklahoma and much of the southwest. During WWII, John served in the field artillery as a lieutenant,

John was prominent in the life of his community and served on a number of boards of directors. He was deeply religious and was on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral and active in its affairs. He taught Bible studies for more than 20 years and was active in a prison ministry.

In 1937, John married Virginia Estey. They had four children, John Handy Jr. (deceased), Josephine Thweatt, Dr. Helen Lutsch, and Ellis.

We shall miss this loyal member of the Class, and we extend our deep sympathy to Virginia and their children, their four grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, his brother Archibald, and his sister Mary Elizabeth Thach.
