Body

JOHN J. “ZONK” LANZILLO died Nov. 6, 1994 , in Rutland, Vt. He prepared at Rutland H.S., Phillips Exeter, and Princeton Preparatory, where he competed in football, baseball, track, and boxing, and was in school plays. At Princeton, he played football and boxed, but left in the spring of freshman year to spend six months in South America. Zonk started out owning a restaurant, later operating the Vergennes Inn, living in Rutland all his life, except for a stint with Bausch and Lomb in Rochester, N.Y. He and wife Mary Cereghino traveled extensively. His hobbies were bowling, golf, and reading. He was faithful attending major Princeton reunions. He was also cofounder and 20-year secretary of Rutland's City Bowling Assn. and spent 55 years with Elks Lodge 345. In addition to daily visits to his wife when she was in a nursing home, he spent much time visiting other sick and disabled.

Zonk and Mary had six children, of whom five survive; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Zonk was one of nine children-two brothers and three sisters survive. Zonk maintained active correspondence with his progeny. To his extensive family, the class extends sincere sympathy.
