John Llewellyn Clemmitt ’44

Body

JACK DIED AT 70 in Williamsburg, Va., on Apr 3, 1992, after a long and difficult illness. His memorial service was held at the historic Bruton Parish Episco Church. He leaves two daughters, Sarah W. and Elizabeth J.; and a son, Richard W. Jack was a popular figure in the Class. With skill and cunning he and Fergie Baruch pulled off a memorable clapper snatch. On the lacrosse fields he displayed his grace, speed, and toughness. He moved in the foreground of much of those campus years. As a Marine Corps officer he saw three and a half years of service on Guam and in China. He began his business life with heavy equipment and machinery sales, then turned to banking with Riggs and brokerage with Alex Brown & Sons of Washington. Sadly his marriage, in 1959, ended in divorce. He was devoted to his children, maintained an active interest in lacrosse at both Princeton and Gilman, and treasured his half of the bell clapper.

We mourn John, and regret we didn't see more of him over the years. To all his family our deepest sympathies. God bless, Jack.
