John M. Reynolds ’22
OUR DEVOTED and respected former class secretary, John Murray Reynolds, died July 11, 1993, in Deerfield Beach, Fla., where he had moved earlier this year. Although Jack had been in declining health for several years, he always asked about various classmates and related stories about the many articles and books that he had written over the past 60 years.
John's entire professional career was spent in the shipping and steamship industry. During WWII, he served for six years with the navy, achieving the rank of commander. Jack was involved with intelligence and counterintelligence and served for three years in London, where he received several commendations for his involvement with the Normandy invasion. Jack was also reputed to have had the largest mustache in the navy.
In 1946, Jack became a shipbroker and became involved with the Society of Maritime Arbitrators. Jack served as class secretary from 197292. At Princeton, he was a member of Cloister Inn, Clio Hall, and the rifle and pistol team. Jack is survived by a son, John Jr.; a daughter, Virginia; a step-daughter, Helen MacNamara; and a grandchild.
