John M. Trent ’37

Body

Quiet John Trent, who had a distinguished naval career and sly sense of humor, died Mar. 18, 1995, in Princeton. His wife, Lisa, and a daughter Diana predeceased him. His brother Edmund is in the Class of '36.

John prepared at Berkshire. At Princeton, he majored in history; was a member of Quad; was on the freshman football, track, and cross-country teams; was business manager of the PICTORAL; was advertising manager of the DINK; and was a member of the Yacht Club.

After college, he worked for American Express, except for five years' naval service. By 1947, he was assistant manager of the foreign remittance department. In the Navy, he rose from apprentice seaman to lt. commander of DE 186. He participated in ten campaigns all over the Pacific and was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star. After that, he was general manager of U.S. Navigation Co., and from 1961-76, he worked with Intl. Express Co.

We extend our sympathy to Daphne, Chloe, David, and Edmund.
