John MacGregor ’52

SANDY BLEWER died at his home in Salt Lake City, of cancer of the kidney, on Apr. 7, 1991. His funeral there was on Apr. 10, with a memorial service in the Brick Presbyterian Church, N.Y., on June 19. His daughter Cecelia gave the address at the latter.

The pattern of Sandy's interests was shaped at Princeton. He majored in oriental languages, and he spent a semester of his junior year at the American Univ. in Cairo. After graduation from Yale Law School in 1955, he served as a legal adviser in counterintelligence while stationed in Tokyo. At Princeton Sandy belonged to Charter Club, sang in the Glee Club and Chapel Choir, and roomed with Paul Glenn.

Sandy was brilliantly successful in his field of investment counseling, as it gave him the opportunity to apply his interests and theories. The first American to serve as the agent of a Japanese investment firm (in 1962) he pioneered in opening Japanese markets to American capital. A voracious reader, he maintained a network of friends among politicians, academics, business leaders, and members of both German and Russian general staffs.

Having moved to Salt Lake City in 1989 to make a fresh start, he met Marilynn Roskelley, whom he had hoped to marry. To her, and his children Cecelia, Evelyn, Victoria, Julia, and MacGregor, and a grandson Theodore, we extend our profound sympathies.
