John Masury Sturges ’28
JACK STURGES died Aug. 6, 1991, in Southampton, N.Y. He prepared for Princeton at Lawrenceville, and in college he majored in modern languages, was a member of Charter Club, and was a member of the track team.
Jack went to work with a family company, John W. Masury & Son of Brooklyn, paint manufacturers, where he was industrial sales manager. He also worked with BaldwinLimaHamilton Corp. He served during the war with the U.S. Air Corps, stationed at various airfields, and in Chicago and New York. He attained the rank of major. After the war Jack joined Gibbs and Hill, Inc. Consulting Engineers, in New York, and continued with this firm until retirement.
Jack married Alice Schumacher on Nov. 21, 1934. She survives him, as do three children, John M. Jr., Mary (Mrs. Henry I. King.), and Joanna (Mrs. Peter A. Bator); 14 grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. A brother, Ralph '25, is deceased. A brotherinlaw of Alice is Dr, Jose M. Ferrer '34.
Jack was an enthusiastic sailor and golfer, a good mechanic and carpenter, had a fine baritone voice, and was greatly interested in opera. He and Alice traveled extensively after retirement.
Jack regularly attended Princeton reunions and Class affairs at the Princeton Club of New York. His classmates remember him with admiration and gratitude, and their sympathy is with Alice and their family.
