John Mathers McCaslin Jr. ’42

Body

JOHN DIED at 71 in Glendale, Ohio, his home for most of his married life, on Aug. 5, 1991. He had retired in January from his law practice after a long, distinguished career, specializing in civil trial law. His colleagues described him as highly competent, reserved, with a dry sense of humor.

John came to Princeton from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, majored in politics, and was a member of Terrace Club. A pilot in the Army Air Corps during the war, he flew 29 missions over Europe and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He attended Columbia Univ. Law School after the war and received his law degree from the Univ. of Cincinnati in 1948.

John was always interested in sports and was himself a fine golfer and tennis player. His son John remembers him as a tenacious competitor and a very hard worker, devoted to providing for his family. To his widow, A]then; his daughter Susan; his sons Hugh, Robert, and John; his mother, Mrs. Susan B. McCaslin; and to a sister, Nancy Ruchoft; the Class extends its deepest sympathies.
