John McLane Selover ’53

Body

Majoring in history, John took his meals at Elm Club and belonged to the Yacht Club. He was Elm’s sports manager, president of the Minnesota Club, and played IAA athletics. He roomed with his fellow Blake School classmate Tom Jamieson, who recalls that after graduation John joined Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo).

John married Elsa Hauschild, daughter of Hollis Hauschild ’30, in 1956, and spent two years in Korea with the Army. He retired from Northwestern National as senior vice president and chief credit officer after 33 years of service. He immediately joined Citizens Independent Bank in a similar position and was “highly regarded” by Bill Odgen as Bill’s personal banker.

Elsa said John preferred to unwind at his cabin in his beloved Minnesota North Woods. Besides Elsa, he is survived by his sons, William J. and Peter G.; and his brother. To them, we offer fond remembrances and give thanks for our departed friend.
