John Ordway ’31

Body

WITH THE DEATH of our classmate John Ordway on Apr. 17, 1991, after an extended illness, Princeton and 1931 lost an alumnus who truly exemplified Woodrow Wilson's inspiring phrase, "Princeton in the Nations' Service." He came to Princeton from Cristobal Canal Zone High School and Princeton Preparatory School. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Foreign Service from 1935 to 1969 in such posts as Ceylon, Burma, warbombed London, Argentina, Iran, and Turkey, His last two posts were as U.S. consul general in Palermo, Italy, and in Winnipeg, Canada. As befitted his career, he and his wife, Alice, thoroughly enjoyed their worldwide travels. To Alice; his sister, Nancy Jameson; his three children, including his son Eric'71; and seven grandchildren, the Class extends its sincere sympathy.
