Body

Jack died Jan. 8, 1995. He prepared for college at the Hoosac School. At Princeton, he played football and hockey and belonged to Cannon Club. At different times, his roommates were Barry Colahan ‘28, J. V. Ferenbach ‘28, and Don Reifsnyder. He received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton and a doctorate from Lille Univ.

After some teaching at Deerfield and at Williams, and wartime service with the Petroleum Administration, his entire career was in geology, as a consultant, field explorer, and manager. Most of his life was spent in Montana, though his work also included several other states and Cyprus. He received an honorary degree from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont. Many of his employers were major oil companies.

He helped establish the geology department at Rocky Mountain College, and was deeply involved in the Yellowstone Beartooth Research Camp at Red Lodge. For many years, he kept two riding horses there. He was in many professional societies. In 1947, he married Margaret Luise “Peggy” Wright, and she survives, as do their three children, Cynthia, Kacie, and Paul. The class extends its sincere sympathy to Jack’s family.
