JOHN DIED Mar. 17, 1990, at Overlook Hospital, in Summit, N.J., at the age of 69.

Born in SI. Louis, Mo., he attended Taylor School before entering Princeton. While on campus, John played varsity football and participated in boxing and wrestling. He was a member of Dial Lodge.

A Marine Corps dive-bomber pilot in the Pacific during WWII, John flew 92 combat missions, ultimately receiving the D.F.C. with two gold stars, the Air Medal with 11 gold stars, the Bronze Star, and Silver Star.

Back in civilian life, John worked as a special agent for the F.B.I. in San Francisco, L.A., and Washington (where he acted as J. Edgar Hoover's administrative assistant). He left the bureau in 1954 and became an advertising executive for the SATURDAY EVENING POST, LIFE, and NEWSWEEK. In 1982 John was a co-founder of INC., a business magazine. He retired in 1988.

He is survived by his widow, the former Doris Reidy; three daughters, Gabrielle Keeler, Patricia Higgins-Edge, and Candice Higgins; four sisters; and two grandchildren. To all, we extend our most heartfelt condolences.
