John R. Lambert Jr., a professor of university studies emeritus at North Carolina State Univ., died July 14, 1994, in Raleigh. He was 77. He got his bachelor's from Western Maryland College, and got his master's and his Ph.D. at Princeton in history. Before the war, he was a contemporary and close friend of Nobel Prize-winner Richard Feynman. After getting his master's John served in the Navy during WWII, then came back to Princeton for his Ph.D. He taught at Carnegie Tech and at North Carolina State after that. After retiring, he began hybridizing daylilies, and introduced more than 400 new varieties. He is survived by his widow, Dorothy; one son; and two grandsons. We extend our sympathy to his family on the loss of this versatile scholar and teacher.
