John R. Slonaker ’69

Body

THE CLASS, along with his family and many friends, suffered a great loss on Feb. 23, 1990, when John Slonaker died at his Summit, N.J., home. He battled his illness with the spunk and sparkle he brought to all of life.

A graduate of William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, John majored in aeronautical engineering and was active in baseball and in rugby at Princeton. He was a member of Cap and Gown.

After graduation, he worked for Grumman Aircraft Corp. and Johnson & Higgins. Also, he served as a V.P. of Fidelity Bank in Newark and of Chemical Bank in N.Y. Since 1981, he had been an investment banker and V.P. of Keefe Bruyette & Woods in N.Y. A former board member of the Boys' Club of Newark, John was past president of the United Way of Chatham, N.J. Blessed with the patience and enthusiasm to teach and to coach, John shared those abilities with various team activities pursued by his daughters Sarah, Kathryn, and Leigh. To them, to his sister, Linnea Flint, and to his widow, Muffin, go our sympathy at this difficult time. We will remember with grateful affection the giving and the caring that defined John's life.
