John Raymond Paul ’61

Body

JOHN PAUL died on Dec. 24, 1989, after a long and coura¬geous struggle with diabetes. Despite the loss of a leg in 1987 because of the disease, he had continued to write and teach at Montclair State College, where he was a tenured professor, lecturing in the final months of his life from his home by means of a telephone modem installed by the College.

Born on Jan. 28, 1940, in N.Y., John prepared for Princeton at Leonia High School. At Princeton he ma¬jored in English and was a member of Wilson Lodge. He earned a master's in history at Columbia and then began his teaching career at Bloomfield College, before mov¬ing to Montclair State as a teacher of renaissance litera¬ture and journalism. Known after his days at Columbia as Raymond, he was the author of a number of mystery novels and, with a classmate, had several musical come¬dies professionally produced.

John was married in 1966 but subsequently divorced. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond V. Paul '33 and two brothers, James M. '65 and William H. '70. The Class joins them in their grief.
