John Richard Collins ’99

Body

John Collins died Dec. 9, 2009, in Atlanta from dilated cardiomyopathy. He was 33.

John grew up in Worcester, Mass., and came to Princeton after spending a year working for the American Red Cross. He began dating Laura Hardman in the fall of their freshman year. He lived in Forbes all four years, and proposed to Laura on a walk in the Institute Woods.

John graduated with honors and was awarded the philosophy department’s Class of 1869 Prize for outstanding senior thesis. As a testament to John’s personality, his thesis was finished long before most seniors even had begun.

John was committed to community service. He volunteered as an EMT in West Windsor, N.J., for seven years and also was co-coordinator of the Urban Action program.

John loved Princeton so much that he and Laura stayed in town after graduation, where John worked as a consultant for Sibson & Co. In 2006, he graduated with honors from Duke University School of Law and the Fuqua School of Business. For the last four years, he was an associate in the firm   of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker in Atlanta.

John was the loving father of Claire Boisfeuillet (2) and John Henry (4 months). The class extends deepest sympathy to the family, which includes John’s father, Richard ’64; his sister, Katherine Collins Donohue ’02; and his uncle, John H. III ’55.
