AT 79, JACK DIED Apr. 6, 1993, of a stroke in La Mesa, Calif. He attended Trenton H.S. At Princeton, he majored in politics and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received an M.B.A. from the Univ. of Chicago.

Jack devoted his career to the Inland Steel Co., where he started in 1936. He progressed from the open hearth dept. to the order division, where he pioneered the use of computers and created what was recognized as one of the most efficient order divisions in the U.S. steel industry.

He retired in 1979 as assistant comptroller in charge of systems and computer operations, then consulted parttime until 1992. He presented several papers on his field of specialty at systems conferences, including the American Management Assn. and the Society for Management Information Systems. He also lectured at the Univ. of Chicago, at Duke, and at U.C.Riverside.

Jack spent three years in the navy during WWII in the Pacific theater. He retired from active duty as a lieutenant j.g.). Jack's wife, Virginia, whom he married in 1937, predeceased him. He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Fischer; a son, John; and a grandson. He led a productive life and will be remembered.
